Standing before the Stuart Manor at 145 Optimist Way, Landon Spencer was certain that never before in his entire life did he ever encounter a house to rival this one. It was arguably the most beautiful home his eyes had ever seen. His hometown on the other side of the country rested outside of Pittsburgh and definately did not have anything like this. Looking left to right, Landon began to wonder how long it would take to run a full circle around the Manor. The beauty of the structure was enchanting. It posessed a power to just capture one's attention and not let go. Spencer's eyes were fixed on the home, unable to pull away. To think that this could be his home for the summer was mind blowing. The house represented everything he dreamt of. To be able to call this his home would be a blessing beyond his imagination.
Of course, when Landon Spencer referred to it as his possible home, he was not about to purchase it. The house before him was worth more than he could ever make in a lifetime. It was the perfect example of a filthy rich California home. The kind of place everyone dreams to have. No, Landon could never, ever afford such a building. He was only here for a meeting with the owner of the house, Mr. Stuart. It was a fateful encounter, a whole story in itself, that brought the two gentleman together. Spencer was just extremely lucky to even have this opportunity. Mr. Stuart had explained to him in their meeting that he wanted someone to look over the house over the course of the summer. With the amount of money under his name, it seemed he would be taking several trips with his wife and would sleep better knowing that someone was there. After the explanation, Stuart offered an invitation for Landon to come over to the house for an interview of sorts. Feeling tiny before the entralling structure, Spencer took a deep breath and began to move his feet toward his destiny.
The landscape on the outside of the Stuart Manor was just as captivating as the house itself. Gorgeous flowers and exotic plants framed the sidewalk that Landon walked upon. It seemed like an eternity to reach the door. With a ring of the doorbell, he was forced to stand in anticipation. Taking a step to the right, his eyes examined his reflection in the window. Spencer came dressed in a casual yet proper attire. A classy polo shirt tucked in a pair of dress pants. Fixing his hair, he heard the unlocking of the door and returned to his spot in front of the door. Mr. Stuart appeared as the door was fully opened. The man smiled at Landon as the two exchanged greetings. Philip Stuart had a way about him, an aura of power and wealth that surrounded him. Philip had a way of making every action he did intimidating due to that immense wealth and power. His smile most certainly welcoming but made Spencer feel oddly lower. With a handshake and a few words, Landon was inside the enormous home.
The inside of the house was even more charming than the outside. The foyer was spotless. Philip Stuart informed Landon that they would have a chat inside his study. Each room they went through was as impressive as the next. Every room was equipped with a theme. They all held art work, whether it be a statue or a painting, that fit perfectly with the design of the room. The more things Landon took in, the more he was convinced that the house was actually perfect. There was not a single thing he would alter within the house, it was literally flawless. He continued to follow in Mr. Stuart's footsteps, listening to the information he was being given. Philip explained that he had a daughter by the name of Adelaide, which Spencer found to be very different but an intriguing name at that. Landon had to suppress a chuckle as he thought of the house he walked through actually only existing to house three people. It was outrageous and unbelievable. He was sure he could telephone all of his friends back home to come live with him inside the confines of the Stuart Manor and there would still be room remaining.
After what felt (and probably was) like forever, the two arrived at the study. Pushing open the glass doors, Landon followed his interviewer inside. Upon walking inside, he was sure study was the wrong word for the room he currently occupied. It was more of a library. Outlining a good portion of the walls were ceiling high bookcases. With his eyes looking up at the roof, Spencer was sure the ceiling was on par with the second floor. He wasn't even positive how many stories there were in the house. Three or four would have to be his guess. All of the furniture in the present room was black leather. The entire house was breathtaking. The study could be described as impressively professional. Taking a seat in the middle of the leather couch, Landon Spencer began the interview by answering Mr. Stuart's first question.
"Why would I like the job, sir? Well..."

Landon Spencer was sitting in that same leather chair now like he did only a week ago. It was as comfortable as he remembered it. In the entire week that he had been looking over the house, he had yet to sit in the chair. Spencer was fairly sure he had not even seen every room within the home. There were so many tasks to complete, from cleaning to keeping the grounds in order to preparing meals for Adelaide. The pay he was recieving from Mr. Stuart was well beyond anything he could make at any other summer job but only a week into things, Landon was sure he was deserving of every penny. The intimidation he felt on that first day, standing outside and taking it all in, was very justified. There had yet to be a problem until today.
Landon was indeed sitting in the middle of that same leather couch, but the entire atmosphere was completely reversed. He was not here for an interview with Mr. Stuart. In fact, the owner of the house and his wife were cruising the islands. There was no feeling of worry or pressure. Instead of sitting among the wealthy Mr. Stuart, Spencer was sitting between two different couples who couldn't remove their lips from one another. Staring off into space, he couldn't believe how many people were inside the house. Never would he ever guess that it was possible to feel crowded inside the Stuart Manor, but that's how it seemed right now. There was no direction or room to go without finding someone there.
Leaning foward, Spencer hid his face in his hands. The aroma of alcohol was everywhere. It was a stench that found its way into every corner of the Manor. He did not even want to think about the condition of the house in the morning. Every single room in the entire home would have to cleaned until it was spotless. Every room. It was going to be a nightmare. Landon would be damned if Adelaide did not help him. The overwhelming party was all her fault. Thinking back to early in the afternoon, he remembered the entire small conversation.
"Hey Landon, think I could have some friends over tonight?"
"I suppose so."
"Thanks so much."
That was it. Her smile had been so cute and innocent that Landon was blinded to the truth. Whenever Adelaide came into the kitchen earlier that afternoon with her question, he had completely misunderstood. What he took from a few friends was like her best friends. Maybe a movie night or they were going to go swimming. Both assumptions were dead wrong. Instead, Landon was drowning with the reality of how the house would look. There was little to no chance of the police breaking the party either, Stuart was far too powerful of a figure. The party was out of control, leagues beyond the point that he could actually end it. There was no way he would be able to throw anyone out. Instead, he was forced to watch the house get torn to pieces. Every once in awhile he came across a good samaritan who would clean up their spilled bear. But that was every once in awhile. For every helping individual, Spencer came across three disasters.
Deciding to exit his misery and leave the uncomfortable spot, Landon exited the study. Making his way through the rooms, Landon had to dodge people constantly. The last thing he wanted to do was bump into someone and make a new mess. It took him a little while to reach the kitchen. After making it to the kitchen, a girl came up to him with a mixed drink. She had been over to the house before during the course of the week but Landon could not remember her name. Kindly she handed him the drink with an intoxicated smile.
"You deserve it, for letting Adelaide throw like the party of the year."
Spencer just nodded back and took the drink from her. Exiting through the kitchen doors, the fresh air felt wonderful on his face. The ocean looked beautiful but was still a nice walk away. One would have to cross the grounds and then the beach to reach its salty waters. That wasn't the location Spencer had in mind. Instead he took a seat on a reclining chair a short distance from the pool. There were a number of kids swimming, thankfully they didn't appear to be drinking. Maybe Landon was looking at the whole picture wrong. Maybe the party was unavoidable, there was nothing he could've done to prevent it. Maybe he should just enjoy himself with everyone else. The thought was really appealing. There wasn't a clear reason that argued it. With a shrug of his shoulders, Landon gave in and had his first drink of the night.
